# Cannabis Social Media Compliance Kit

The working reference for whoever runs social at a dispensary or a cannabis brand. What each platform enforces, what to post instead, and what to do the day an account gets restricted. Written from stated platform policies and from what operators run into in practice.

**General information, not legal advice.** Cannabis rules differ by state, by license type, and sometimes by city. Check anything here with your own counsel and your state regulator, and read it against your license conditions, before you act on it.

## Most platforms are not policing the plant. They are policing the transaction.

A photo of flower is a photo. A photo of flower with a price, a code, a "DM to order," or a link to a menu is a marketplace listing for a federally controlled substance, and that is what the drug policies are written to stop. Once you see enforcement that way, most of the confusing cases resolve.

The exceptions are TikTok and Snapchat, where the plant itself is the tripwire. That difference is why those two need a different content strategy rather than a more careful caption.

The second thing worth knowing: automated moderation acts first and a human reviews later if ever. You are writing for a classifier, and the classifier does not read context, sarcasm, or your license number.

The kit is that knowledge written down, platform by platform, so you do not learn it by losing an account.

## What is inside.

**01. Platform rules.** Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest. For each one: what gets an account restricted, what is generally tolerated, what the appeal path actually looks like, and the posture to take. Tolerated and permitted are treated as different things, because they are.

**02. The pre-post checklist.** Ten questions you run before you publish. Price or code in the caption, anything that tells someone how to buy, where the link points, health claims, youth appeal, product visible on a platform where product cannot be visible, the price tag in the background of the photo you did not notice. About ninety seconds once you know it, plus a longer version for anything new.

**03. Thirty post templates.** Caption frameworks with placeholders across education, staff and budtender spotlights, community and local, lifestyle, events, brand story, behind the scenes, and FAQ answers. Each one explains why it is built that way, so you can write your own variants instead of running the same thirty forever.

**04. Appeal scripts.** Five scripts: a single post removed in error, a borderline removal you want to concede cleanly, repeated removals and suspected suppression, a disabled account, and escalation through a business channel. Plus the preparation that makes an appeal winnable, which is the part you do this week while nothing is broken.

**05. The owned channel playbook.** The part most people skip. Why your site, your menu, your email list, and your SMS list are the only assets nobody can throttle, ranked by how hard they are to take away from you, and a thirty-day plan for moving your audience onto them. It is the highest-return item in the kit and the one everyone postpones.

## Who it is for.

- Dispensary marketing managers running one or several store accounts
- Brand social leads at plant-touching companies
- Agency account managers with cannabis clients
- Owners doing their own posting because there is nobody else to do it
- Ancillary and CBD brands who keep getting caught in plant-touching enforcement

If you have ever stared at a post for ten minutes wondering whether it will get you struck, it is for you.

## What it will not do.

It will not get your ads approved on Meta. It will not make TikTok safe for product content. It will not tell you what your state allows, because that is your regulator's job and your attorney's job. It will not promise your account stays up, because no one can promise that.

What it will do is take the guesswork out of daily posting, and make sure that when enforcement does hit, it costs you reach instead of your whole audience.

It is not a compliance certification and it is not a legal opinion. Where a platform policy is vague, the kit says so rather than inventing certainty.

## How it is delivered.

Plain Markdown files in one folder. They open in any text editor and paste cleanly into Notion, Google Docs, Slack, or whatever your team posts from. No login, no app, no course platform.

Platform policies move. When something material changes, buyers get the updated copy and a short note on what changed and what to do about it. There is no subscription.
